Lortone cabbing arbors run a 3/4" shaft, and wheels mount directly on it between flanges. A 1" bore wheel fits with a 3/4" bushing. Our SuperNova soft wheels ship with that bushing in the box, so they fit a Lortone arbor with nothing extra to buy. The shaft ends are tapped 1/4"-20 for spin-on polishing heads.

Fitting a 1" bore wheel to a 3/4" shaft
SuperNova, Diamond Pacific Nova and CabKing soft wheels are all made with a 1" bore. On a Lortone, that means a 3/4" bushing in the bore. Our SuperNova wheels ship with bushings for 3/4", 5/8" and 1/2". Use the 3/4" bushing on a Lortone. If one goes missing, spare telescopic bushings are sold separately.
Do not run a 1" bore wheel on a 3/4" shaft without the bushing. The flanges will clamp it, but they will not center it. The wheel runs off center and wears unevenly. See Arbor and bore sizes for why.
Building a six-wheel set
A bare Lortone arbor comes with no wheels, so you choose the set. For reference, the Diamond Pacific Genie, the CabKing and the Barranca GP6-6 all ship with the same shape of set: two hard wheels for shaping, then four soft resin wheels at 280, 600, 1,200 and 3,000.
Positions 1 and 2, hard wheels.
| Wheel | 6" arbor | 8" (NS8) |
|---|---|---|
| Our nickel bond hard wheel | 6" x 1 1/2", 80 to 600 grit | 8" x 1 1/2" or 2", 36 to 600 grit |
| Our sintered wheel | 6" x 1 1/2", 30 to 600 grit | 8" x 1 1/2", 30 to 600 grit |
Both hard wheels are 1" bore. On a Lortone, fit a 3/4" bushing.
Positions 3 to 6, soft resin wheels. SuperNova, made in our Orange, CA warehouse, 1" bore with the 3/4" bushing included, 6" x 1 1/2" (or 8" x 2" on the NS8).
For why the set runs in that order, see grit progression for cabbing.
The 1/4"-20 ends
Lortone taps both ends of the stainless arbor 1/4"-20 for spin-on polishing heads. Our SuperNova disc is 5.5" with a 1/4"-20 screw back, in 280, 600, 1,200, 3,000, 8,000, 14,000 and 50,000 grit.
Resurfacing worn wheels from a Lortone
The soft wheels on a Lortone are resurfaced the same way as any others. Ship the wheel only, and keep the 3/4" bushing on the bench. It comes back in about a week.
| Wheel | Resurface | New SuperNova |
|---|---|---|
| 6" | $39.95 | $79.95 |
| 8" | $49.95 | $99.95 |
Prices from the live store, 2026-09-29. Any brand of soft resin wheel. Hard wheels are not resurfaced. Start a resurfacing order, or see when a wheel is scrap.
Belts on Lortone machines
Our silicon carbide belts include a Lortone option: 3" x 25 1/8", in 36, 60, 80, 100, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800 and 1,000 grit. It fits the Lortone sanding drum.
Questions we get
What size shaft does a Lortone cabbing arbor have?
3/4". Wheels mount directly on it between flanges.
Will a 1" bore wheel fit my Lortone?
Yes, with a 3/4" bushing. SuperNova wheels include one.
Can I run the wheel without the bushing if the flanges are tight?
No. The flanges clamp the wheel, but only the bushing centers it.
Which way do the arbor nuts thread?
On the NS8, one side is right-hand and one is left-hand, 3/4" x 16. Check your own arbor before forcing a nut.
Does Lortone still make a complete cabbing machine?
Lortone currently sells the six-wheel arbors without motor or wheels. Its LU6X-130 combination unit is listed as not available.
